Last Thursday I was very pleased to be invited as one of the Masterclass speakers at Enhance Media’s Annual Online Recruitment Conference.
It was an extremely successful and well run event, with standing room only in many of the masterclasses, held in the stunning Royal Geographic Society building in central London. There was a great line up of main speakers in the auditorium as well as the masterclass sessions running throughout the day, so all delegates had a packed agenda to follow.
My session; ‘Utilising brand reputation to attract talent to your business’ focused on how in the competitive job market the shift has gone from the client to the candidate. Candidates have more power than ever and consultants need to address this change by leveraging their brand to create a competitive edge and stay ahead of the competition when attracting and engaging with potential new candidates.
Candidates need to be able to understand the core values and ‘soul’ of your brand, not only will this help attract new candidates it will be the driving force of your reputation in the market. Ultimately, now more than ever before, we need to really sell to candidates if we want to engage them with our brands.
Some other great speakers on the day included Alex Lowe from Google who looked at how technology is changing the recruitment market and what technology trends will influence the way companies use digital to handle resourcing challenges. Interestingly 88% of job seekers used a mobile device to job search in the last year and yet we heard that only 2% of Fortune 500 companies are actually tailoring their job applications for mobile users.
This again highlights how much technology is changing the recruitment market and with Eric Schmidt forecasting that everyone in the world will be online by 2020, according to Alex Lowe, this change is set to continue. The messages shared by other speakers on gamification, video interviewing and big data reminded us that the tools, technology and information we need to take the guesswork out of recruitment is there if we choose to use it, and if we don’t, then someone else will and we will get left behind.
